Abstract

In order to reduce the browning of the silicate glass face plate in a cathode-ray tube resulting from the impact of an electron beam, 0.01 to 0.2% by weight of MnO is included in the glass; in addition, up to 0.5% by weight of TiO2 may be added. Glass consisting of, in weight percentage, SiO2 66; Al2O3 4; BaO 12; PbO 2.5; K2O 6; Na2O 7; Li2O 0.5; Rb2O 0.4; F 1.0; fired with Sb2O3+As2O3 0.6 is used as a base glass to which the MnO and TiO2 are added, the constituents being proportionally reduced. Tests were also made with the same glass but with the PbO either 1.64 or O and with varying amounts of MnO4CeO2 0.03% is also added in some examples.
