Articles having a wear-resistant rim, a hub and a part interconnecting said rim and hub such as live rollers for travelling cranes, telpher pulleys, gears and the like, are made by centrifugally casting in a mould cavity whose shape is such that the cross-section of the part connecting the rim 2 and hub 1, i.e. spokes 6 decreases outwardly from the hub and additionally decreases abruptly at the junction 7 with the rim. The metal is introduced at a temperature as close as possible to but above the solidification temperature and at a speed to produce laminar flow.
