Abstract

993,871. Direction finders. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. Aug. 21, 1962 [Aug. 26, 1961], No. 31998/62. Addition to 836,687. Heading H4D. A direction finder of the type described in the parent Specification wherein the sine and cosine components of the receiver signal are separately processed in A.G.C. amplifiers and integrators, to give average products, smoothing out random fluctuations, for application to orthogonal deflection plates of a CRT, is modified by the provision of gain control or gate means 13 and 14 between the respective rectifiers 6 and 7 (17 and 18 in the above Specification) and the integrating circuits 10 and 11 (19 and 20). The gain control or gate means are controlled by a voltage signal derived from the A.G.C. unit 15 (9) method when the signals received at the aerial array 1 are severely faded the signals from the sine and cosine receiver channels 3 and 4 are prevented from passing to their respective integrators for erroneous inclusion in the additions therein. Severe fading of the received signal causes the A.G.C. unit signal to decrease, whence it is inverted to positive going in inverting circuit 16 and compared with a preset positive fade limit voltage in threshold device 17, a signal being sent to the units 13 and 14 when the inverted signal becomes greater than the preset voltage. If the inputs to the two channels are periodically reversed then the control voltage for both channels may be obtained from one channel.
