Abstract
993,406. Chucks. MATSUDA KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. May 18, 1961, No. 13946/61. Heading B3B. A lathe chuck actuated to load and unload a workpiece without stopping the lathe comprises a body carrying concentric sleeves 9, 24, and clamping rollers 7, operated by the sleeves to clamp a workpiece. Sleeve 9 has cam surfaces 11 engaging the rollers, and recesses 19, engageable by pawls 22, and a spring urged centre 32 is carried by the chuck. In operation, sleeve 9 is stopped manually, the body continues to rotate and rollers 7 engage cam surfaces 11, pawls 22 engage recesses 19 to interconnect the body and sleeve 9, and the work is inserted in the chuck. Sleeve 24 is stopped manually, projections 27 disconnect pawls 22, and spring 12 rotates sleeve 9 relative to the body, to move the rollers inwardly to grip the work.
