Abstract

Anti-fouling coating compositions comprise a lacquer paint containing after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride as substantially water-insoluble binder, a pigment and copper flakes having a maximum particle size of 140 microns. The preferred pigment is zinc white; and the compositions may also comprise other anti-fouling agents, e.g. hexachlorocyclohexane and pentachlorophenol; colouring agents; cyclohexanone resins and solvents, e.g. xylene, toluene, and butyl acetate. Examples describe compositions comprising after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, cyclo-hexanone resin, zinc white, pentachlorophenol, copper flakes and solvent and (I) titanium dioxide, plasticizer, copper naphthenate, pigments and hexachlorocyclohexane; (II) titanium dioxide, plasticizer, copper naphthenate and pigments; (III) red iron oxide, pigment, copper naphthenate and hexachlorocyclohexane; and (IV) red iron oxide and pigment.
