Abstract

992,622. External band brakes. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Jan. 23, 1964, No. 2882/64. Heading F2E. In an external band brake a spring 16 is compressed between the ends 3b, 4b of two levers 3, 4 to force the ends apart and thus force the opposite ends 3a, 4a of the levers towards one another to tighten the brake band 1. Stop members in the form of bolt heads 11a, 12a attached to pistons 13, 14 co-operate with the ends 19, 20 of a cylinder 22 to provide abutments whereby, when the braking torque is being transmitted from the brake band to a lever, the movement of each lever tending to compress the spring is limited. Hydraulic fluid supplied through passages 17, 18 forces the pistons 13, 14 towards each other to compress the spring 16 and release the brake. Provision is made for adjustment of a screwed stud 10 at the end 3b, 4b of each lever.
