Abstract
992,216. Sea walls. CANADIAN PATENTS & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. April 22, 1964, No. 16588/64. Heading E1H. A structure for protecting a land mass subject to wave attack by controlling bottom currents comprises a frontal wall 20 sited on the strand or sea bed below the high water shoreline, which wall is at least as high as maximum wave height and has a lower solid base portion 22 resting in the strand and extending to a height not greater than 6 feet above the bottom and a surmounting perforated screen wall portion 23 having a multiplicity of openings 28 spaced over its entire elevational area, the openings being horizontal ducts whose cross-sectional area comprises from 0À4 to 0À75 times the said elevational area, and a landward wall 24 adjacent the land mass to be protected and spaced 10 to 24 feet from the frontal wall to define therewith a surge chamber 25, and means (transverse walls 26) bracing the walls together, the arrangement being such that by wave action a deposit of material 42 will build up in front of the base portion 22. The surge chamber has a cover 29 serving as a promenade or road. Specification 904,514 is referred to.
