Abstract
The invention comprises polymers consisting of bivalent tetrahedral metal atoms doubly bridged by anions of phosphinic acids of formula R2P(O)OH, where R is an inorganic group, e.g.-NH2. The polymers contain units of formula <FORM:0991499/C1/1> where M is the metal, e.g. zinc, cobalt, beryllium, manganese, mercury, nickel, iron or cadmium. The polymers are obtained by reacting a salt of the metal with the acid, e.g. by fusing the reactants together, or by heating them in solvents.ALSO:The invention comprises polymers consisting of bivalent tetrahedral metal atoms doubly bridged by anions of acids of formula R2P(O)OH where R is an organic or inorganic group. The metal may be zinc, cobalt, beryllium, manganese, mercury, nickel, iron or cadmium. The polymers contain units of formula <FORM:0991499/C3/1> where M is the metal and R is an alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy radical or an -NH2 group. The polymers are obtained by reacting a salt of the metal with the acid, e.g. by fusing the reactants together, or by heating them in solvents. In examples polymers are prepared from beryllium chloride, zinc acetylacetonate, zinc acetate, cobalt acetylacetonate, cobalt, manganese, iron, nickel and cadmium acetates, diphenyl phosphinic acid, dimethyl phosphinic acid and methylphenylphosphinic acid.
