Abstract

991,469. Spring mountings. W. ANDRA. Feb. 20, 1962 [June 13, 1961], No. 6607/62. Heading F2S. A resilient mounting constructed as a tiltable thrust bearing, e.g. for a bridge, comprises a pad 1 of rubber, or similar resilient material, which is accommodated within a metal trough member 2, 3 of cylindrical shape and is covered by a metal load-bearing plate 4, a lubricating layer of solid, liquid, paste, or pulverulent material, offering a low frictional resistance to movement, being interposed between the pad 1 and the bearing parts. A sealing ring 5 is located around the upper edge of the pad 1. The relative position of the parts may be reversed, the member 2 being located above the plate 4. The trough member may be made from reinforced concrete by inserting a metal ring into a recess in the concrete. As shown in Fig. 4, a slidable metal plate 6 is supported on the pressure plate 4 a lubricant, or special stainless steel sheets, being placed between the plates 4, 6. In a modification, Fig. 5, the thrust bearing 1-5 is slidable within an oil, or bitumen-filled trough 8 which is provided with a cover 7. A thrust bearing can be combined with one or two sets of roller bearings or with balls 23, Fig. 10, which are located in a shallow trough 24 containing lubricant. According to Fig. 11, lubricating layers of solid, liquid, paste, or pulverulent material 25, 26 are inserted respectively between the upper and lower faces of the pad 1 and the corresponding faces of the plate 4 and the base 3 of the trough 2, 3, in order to reduce the friction between these faces when the pad is deformed during tilting motions of the bearing. In a further modification, the top of the pad 1 is hollowed out and is enclosed by the plate 4 and an annular shoulder on the pad to form a lubricant chamber. In a further modification, Fig. 15, two fluid-filled chambers are provided interiorly of the pad 1.
