A method of making a seam in a woven wire mesh comprises weaving or otherwise applying a strand of a brazing medium to the mesh adjacent to one of the edges to be joined, overlapping said edges and applying heat and pressure to the region of the edges to cause fusion of the brazing medium and effect jointing of the edges. One weft strand is removed from each end of a cut length of woven wire mesh 5 and at one end is replaced by a strand of brazing material 7, e.g. silver solder, which may be wire cored, in which case the core wire has a melting point in excess of the brazing temperature. The ends 8, 9 of the warp strands 6, 11 of the mesh are brought together about a cylindrical mould 10, a steel support strip 13 is placed under the overlapped ends and an electrical hard welding device 14 comprising a suitably mounted rubber wheel 19 and a conductive wheel 20 of copper or carbon used to heat the silver solder and press the ends together into linear alignment, Fig. 3. Alternatively, a welding torch is used to heat the solder and the device 14 used as a pressure roller only. Additional strengthening strips of silver solder may be fused along the joint. In a modification, the ends of the warp strands 6<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be staggered prior to brazing or alternatively the brazing material may be applied as a ribbon to one surface of the mesh.
