Abstract

991,111. Valves. W. GOMERSALL. Feb. 21, 1962 [Feb. 28, 1961], No. 7202/61. Heading F2V. A fluid-control valve comprises a valve body having inlet and outlet openings 3, 4, and associated resilient seat rings 6, 7, such as of natural or synthetic rubber, a quasi-spherical diametrically bored closure member 10 rotatable by means 8, the contour of the closure member being such that it automatically compresses the rings when the member is moved to the closed position and relieves the pressure when moved to the open position, the closure member being formed from two separate portions secured together. The closure member is flattened in the inlet and outlet regions of the bore through the member so that sealing pressure is relieved in the open position. The plug is cored out at 13 for lightness, and the two symmetrical portions joined together by plates 11, 15. The pressure on the resilient seat rings 6, 7 may be adjusted by means of the movable support ring 5 in which the seat ring 7 is mounted. In a modification, the two portions of the closure member may be secured together by means of a circular locking ring fitted over a boss formed on the top of the closure member.
