Abstract
991,050. Illuminated display device; lay figures. J. P. BIRDWOOD. May 13, 1964, No. 19838/64. Headings G5C and G5G. A hollow model (Fig. 1) has portions, representing mouth, eyes and hair, transluscent through which light from an internal lighting unit (Fig. 2) is visible, the unit including means to vary the lighting effect. The model comprises an opaque moulding 1, having openings 5, in which glass eyes 7 are mounted, and transluscent portion 6. The cranium portion is represented by a wire cage 2 (Fig. 2), or by a smooth transparent or transluscent dome, over which a transluscent wig 4 is fitted. Lighting is by two groups of four lamps 14, mounted on two legs of bracket 12, each group being supplied through its own bi-metallic strip switch mechanism (Fig. 3, not shown). Each switch alternately supplies each pair of lamps in its own group, and these lamps are of different colours. The switches are independent, so a random lighting effect is produced. Ear lobes (not shown) can be made transluscent to illuminate jewellery thereon, or could be formed to resemble jewellery.
