Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0990340/C2/1> in which one of X and Y is a pyridyl, piperidyl or N-lower alkyl piperidyl group, and the other is a phenyl, halophenyl, trifluoromethylphenyl, lower alkylphenyl, or lower alkoxyphenyl group, n is 2, 3, or 4, and Am is a di-lower alkylamino, morpholino, piperidino or pyrrolidino group, the nitrogen atom of the group being attached to the -(CH2)ngroup, and non-toxic acid addition and quaternary salts thereof. The compounds are prepared by reacting an anil of formula <FORM:0990340/C2/2> with an organo metallic, preferably lithium derivative of Y, hydrogenating the compound obtained and decomposing with water to obtain the product. The N-lower alkyl piperidine compounds are prepared by reacting the piperidine compound with an acid chloride followed by reduction with lithium aluminium hydride. The anil starting material is produced by reacting a basic ether substituted benzaldehyde with an amine derivative of X or Y. The compounds are used in therapeutic compositions together with a therapeutically acceptable carrier.
