Abstract

Normal hydrocarbons are separated from a C6-containing petroleum fraction boiling in the C6-C12 range by an isobaric, isothermal, vapour phase process at a temperature of 250-400 DEG C. which comprises (a) contacting said fraction with a 5<\>rA molecular seive to adsorb normal hydrocarbons, (b) purging the sieve, (c) desorbing the seive with n-pentane and (d) flushing the sieve. The process is preferably conducted at 50-150 p.s.i.g. using nitrogen as the purge and flushing gas. Nitrogen may also be admitted during the adsorption stage. Examples illustrate the effect of step (d) in greatly improving the yield of n-hydrocarbons when repetitive cycles of operation are employed, compared with similar processes omitting step (d), and show also that for given temperatures there are corresponding pressures giving maximum yield of n-hydrocarbon. Specification 944,441 is referred to.ALSO:Normal hydrocarbons are separated from a C6-containing petroleum fraction boiling in the C6-C12 range by an isobaric, isothermal, vapour phase process at a temperature of 250-400 DEG C. which comprises (a) contacting said fraction with a 5 molecular sieve to adsorb normal hydrocarbons, (b) purging the sieve, (c) desorbing the sieve with n-pentane, and (d) flushing the sieve.
