Abstract

The system determines whether a vehicle is stationary or in motion, in order to perform specific control functions. The system may automatically switch off the engine when the vehicle is stationary, or it may activate a central door locking system when the vehicle is moving. Alternatively, the system can be used to control the opacity of the vehicle windows in dependence on the vehicle motion. In particular, the vehicle may have a feature whereby the opacity of various windows can be controlled manually. This system can then be used to over-ride a manual command issued to make a window opaque, if the vehicle is detected to be moving. Furthermore, the system can determine the direction of movement of the vehicle, identify certain windows which should not be made opaque, so that the driver maintains a good view in the given direction, and then the system can override only the manual commands which relate to those identified windows.
