A washing machine plant consists of at least two washing machines 1... 5 each connected to a common tank for dirty lye 26 which communicates with a lye cleaning apparatus 28, each washing machine 1... 5 having a measure container 6... 10 communicating with a common tank for clean lye 18 which is connected to the lye cleaning apparatus 28, the units 26, 28, 18 being large enough to permit the washing machines 1... 5 to perform their working cycles without delays. The lye cleaning apparatus 28 is a centrifuge controlled by a float in the dirty lye tank 26. The clean lye tank 18 has a pH meter 30. Each measuring container 6... 10 is connected to a common feed pipe 13 for water, and each washing machine 1... 5 is connected to a common outlet pipe 21 to drain. The lye is alkali-soap-water and each washing machine 1... 5 has a dispenser device 31 for adding extra soap. A washing cycle is described.
