Abstract

989,781. Radio receiving apparatus. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. April 24, 1962 [April 21, 1961], No. 14452/61. Heading H3Q. [Also in Division H1] The aerial, radio-frequency and local-oscillalator tuning coils for a television receiver adapted to receive on one or more channels in both band I and band III are mounted upon a single common former, tuning of the coils being effected by the movement along the axis of the former of a plurality of aluminium slugs carried by an axially-disposed insulating rod. In the arrangement shown, the coils C, F, I, L are used for tuning the receiver to channels within band I and coils A, B, D, E, G, H, J, K for tuning to channels within band III. Tuning is effected by movement of a glass rod 2 carrying aluminium slugs 3, 4, 5, 6; in the full-line positions of the slugs tuning is within band I while in the broken-line positions tuning is within band III. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a push-button mechanism in which an adjustable nylon nut screwed on to a threaded portion of the shaft extending from each pushbutton determines the extent of movement of rod 2 and hence the channel to which the receiver is tuned. A slide switch is associated with the rod 2 to switch over from one set of coils to the other as the tuning elements move between the two positions indicated in Fig. 2. A further push-button provides for frequencymodulation reception.
