989,686. Mineral mining. INGERSOLLRAND CO. Aug. 31, 1962 [Sept. 7, 1961; Aug. 24, 1962], No. 33478/62. Heading E1F. To mine a vein 14 of mineral a shaft 12 is sunk to the level of the vein, a cross drift 16, 20 excavated to the vein, drifts 26 at intervals transverse to the cross drift are excavated, and a series of overlapping parallel holes of diameter slightly in excess of the vein thickness and crosswise thereof are drilled between an adjacent pair of transverse drifts and the drillings from said holes are collected. The holes are preferably drilled by rotary, percussive core drills.
