Abstract

989,147. Filament mounts. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 23, 1963, No. 41766/63. Heading H1F. A filament mount for an electrical device, such as an incandescent lamp, comprises a filament terminated at each end by a wire wound into a coiled section comprising at least one turn, a pair of elongated bridge members having end portions extending into and engaging the coiled end sections and the opposite ends coupled together mechanically by insulating means to form a unit and a pair of lead-in conductors held by a stem and electrically connected to the filament, which support the unit in a predetermined position relative to the stem. In one form, lead-in conductors 16, 18, Fig. 1, extending from a stem press 15 are secured as by welding to the straight ends 24, 25 of a coiled coil filament 22, the ends 27, 29 of two bridge wires 26, 28 being inserted in the ends 24, 25 of the filament and the opposite ends embedded in an insulator 34, which also supports a wire 30 having a hook 32 engaging a bight 23 in the filament 22. The wires 26, 28 are also welded to the lead-in wires 16, 18. In a modification, the ends of the bridge wires are curved outwardly where they engage the end coils of the filament producing a stress which reduces sag. In a further modification, the wires 26b, 28b, Fig. 7, are arranged end to end in the insulator 34b and bent twice at right angles so that the coil engaging ends 27b, 29b are directed towards one another to support a straight filament coil 22b, the centre of which is supported by a wire 30b extending from the insulator. Alternatively, the ends 27b, 29b are bent so as to extend at right angles to the plane of the wires 26b, 28b.
