Abstract
989,113. Time switches. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. May 16, 1963 [May 18, 1962], No. 19208/62. Heading H2B. The hour-hand spindle 14 of an electric clock 12 drives three cams 16 (only two being shown) via gearing 15, 17, and each cam operates two sets of contacts for starting and stopping respective devices, for example, a cooker, a water heater and a space heater. Each cam 16 revolves on a sleeve 25 which is itself rotatable by means of a knob 26 on a spindle 18 which is rotatable by a knob 24. Discs 21 and 27 are keyed respectively to spindle 18 and sleeve 25, and a spring 30 urges the discs into frictional engagement respectively with supporting plate 19 and front panel 10. Annular fixed contacts 20 and 29 are mounted on the plate 19 and panel 10 respectively, and each disc 21, 27 carries an arcuate spring blade 22 having respective co-operating moving contacts 23 and 28 thereon. Each cam 16 has two aligned projections 31 which, at times predetermined by the setting of knobs 24 and 26, engage respective blades 22 to urge the contacts 23 and 28 into engagement with associated rings 20 and 29.
