Abstract
988,651. Mixing. AMERICAN WELL WORKS. Oct. 4, 1963 [Nov. 15, 1962], No. 39202/63. Heading B1C. A diffuser swing mechanism for sewage aeration 12, is shown extending vertically alongside the wall 10 of the treatment tank and includes a box-shaped header 13, and upper and lower air pipes 14 and 15, respectively, generally vertically aligned and mechanically interconnected by hollow housing structure 16 that defines a knee-joint to accommodate swinging movement of the lower pipe 15 between its submerged in-use position of Fig. 1 and its elevated position (see Fig. 2, not shown). The lower pipe 15 carries an array of diffuser units D at its lower end. Air for the array of diffuser units is supplied through the pipes 14 and 15 and for this purpose the upper pipe 13 is fixed within the header 13 which has an air inlet port 13P, Fig. 1. The adjacent ends of the pipes 14 and 15 are connected by a flexible hose 17, Fig. 5.
