A vacuum gauge which may use an ionisation measuring head is arranged to indicate on a linear scale, a log arithmic scale, or both, by providing amplifier means which may be switched to give either a linear or logarithmic output. The amplifier means may comprise a pair of separate amplifiers,the inputs or outputs of which may be selectively coupled to the gauge or the indicator respectively. A permanent connection between either amplifier and one indicator may be provided together with a switch operable to connect the same amplifier or the other amplifier to a second indicator simultaneously. Pen recorders may be provided. The Specification refers to the vacuum degasification of steel,and to the vapour deposition of coatings and there is a reference to process regulation and control.
