Abstract
988,350. Electrostatic precipitators. ONODA CEMENT CO. Ltd. March 23, 1964, No. 12124/64. Heading B2J. Apparatus for precipitating dust from gases, such as flue gases emerging from a cement kiln, comprises a drying device 1, Fig. 1, having an inlet 5 for the gases, two or more electrostatic precipitators 2, 3, 4 in series, the last of which having the dust flushed off with water, and means for transporting the slurry leaving the precipitator 4 to the drying device so that the water can be driven off and the remaining solids passed through the precipitators again. The precipitators are each provided with discharge electrodes 9 in the form of piano or stainless steel wires weighted by weights W and collecting electrodes 8 in the form of plates and made of iron or steel, reinforced concrete slabs, asbestos or an acid resistant material. The dry dust collected in hoppers 14, 15 is discharged by a screw conveyer 13 and the slurry collected in hopper 16 is drawn through a centrifugal separator thickener 20 by a pump 22 and delivered to the top of the drying tower 1 where it is sprayed with air or steam through a nozzle 6. Spent water from the separator 20 is delivered via a tank 27 and pump 29 to the spray nozzles 10 of the precipitator. To prevent the nozzles and other parts from becoming clogged with calcium carbonate, part of the flue gases or carbon dioxide may be introduced into the hopper 16. In a modification, Fig. 2, the slurry is delivered by a pump 222 to a disc filter 220 which discharges the solids in cake form down a shoot 234 to be broken up by rotary hammers 232 in the drying device 201. Spent water from the filter 220 is delivered via a tank 227 and pumps 236 and 229 to the spray nozzles 210.
