Abstract

988,349. Locking screws and nuts. NYLOK CORPORATION. March 20, 1964, No. 11909/64. Heading F2H. A self-locking bolt 10 or other male or female screw-threaded fastening device has a longitudinal groove 12 of a depth greater than the root of the threads and a resilient corrugated insert 11 having at least one trough 17 between a pair of crests 15, 16, the diverging opposite ends of the insert being slidably received in undercut recesses at the opposite ends of the groove. The insert shown is formed from a strip of metal but it may comprise a corrugated rod and may be made of resin bonded fibreglass or nylon or metallized plastics material. In a modification a rectangular slot having end portions extending perpendicular to the axis of the screw is provided. After the insert is dropped into the slot the edges of the material at the ends of the slot are staked or bent over to form undercuts to retain the insert.
