A device for dispensing one at a time bottles 21 stored in two staggered stacks, such as described in Specification 921,856, comprises a camoperated shelf 31 which is disposed below alternately-actuated cam-operated abutment rods 25, 26, the arrangement being such that rotation of the cams effects first the movement of the shelf to discharge a bottle thereon, then the return of the shelf to a bottle-holding position and finally the release of a bottle from one of the stacks on to the shelf. Such an arrangement prevents the removal of more than one bottle upon the insertion of a single coin. As shown in Fig. 3, the rods 25, 26 are movable about pivots 23 by a cam 29 and the shelf is movable about one of the pivots 23 by a cam 35,the cam-shaft being driven through gearing 40, 41 by a motor 38 which is controlled by the insertion of a coin and a switch 47 operated by abutments 46 on a timing wheel 45. Three magazines are arranged side-by-side for dispensing bottles in turn, the cam-shafts 44, which are driven from the same motor, being disposed 60 degrees out of phase. Coins inserted rotate the cam-shafts through 60 degrees each time and dispense a bottle from one particular magazine on every third operation. Fig. 5 shows the follower 28 on the abutment 26 riding in the recess 30 of the cam 29 thereby pivoting the abutment about its pivot 33 to allow a bottle to fall on to the shelf 31. Fig. 7 shows the abutment 26 back into its obstructing position, the abutment 25 waiting to be moved and the shelf 31 in its bottle-discharging position, the follower 34 riding in the recess 36 of the cam 35. The side walls of the magazines are adjustable to accommodate various sizes of bottles and if desired, the cams 29 and 35 may be combined. In a single magazine device, the cam-shaft is arranged to rotate one half of a revolution on each insertion of a coin.
