Abstract
1,184,528. Dispensing cups in vending machines. VENDO CO. 7 Aug., 1968 [22 April, 1968], No. 37622/68. Heading B8S. A vending machine includes a carrier 10 which carries stacks of cups and rotates around shaft 16, a motor 44 being provided which drives shaft 48. The movement of the shaft 48 effects two operations: it operates the release device 60 which releases cups one by one from a stack and additionally rotates the carrier 10 whenever a switch 110 (not shown) operates to indicate that the cups in a stack have fallen below a predetermined limit. Cup discharge device 60, Figs. 3 and 4.-The device 60 is provided with cams 66, the bottom cup passing between the cams when released by the cams. The cams are rotated simultaneously by movement of arm 58 which arm 58 is connected to motor shaft 48 by levers 56 and 54, the connection between levers 54 and 56 being provided with an abutment 52. Thus cam 50 engages abutment 52 to place the release device in the position of Fig. 3. At this point the operator places a coin in the machine and the motor 44 operates shaft 48. Cam 50 engages abutment 52 to permit the spring 72 to move operating device 58 quickly (Fig. 4) to operate the release device 60. In this way a cup is released by a quick spontaneous movement. The cam 50 continues to rotate anticlockwise and is finally switched off at position, Fig. 3, ready for the next cycle. Rotation of carrier 10, Fig. 5.-When shaft 48 rotates it drives bar 90, the bar being eccentrically connected to shaft 48 at 76 and being biased by spring 92. But normally no engagement is made with a ratchet 24 which drives carrier 10. However if the stack which is being discharged falls below a predetermined level then a switch is operated to energize a solenoid 108 which causes pawl 98 carried by bar 90 to move into engagement with ratchet 24 so that the ratchet is driven and consequently the carrier rotated to bring the next stack of cups to the position over the release device 60.
