Abstract

A coated sheet material, for use in the preservation of buildings or like structures by insertion thereof between timber of the buildings or like structures and any source of dampness, e.g. damp brickwork, comprises a pliable moisture-impervious sheet carrying a fungicide on at least one side thereof. The fungicide may be carried on both sides of the sheet. The sheet may comprise a plastics material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene, or an impervious layer, e.g. of bitumen or an absorbent material coated with a waterproofing film, or membrane of for instance polyethylene, polyvinylidene resin, polyethylene-modified wax, pitch or bitumen. The fungicide may be mixed with an adhesive and/or binding agent, e.g. gelatine, and a wetting agent. The fungicide may comprise an alkali metal salt of pentachlorophenol, a mercury salt, or a fluorine-containing compound, examples of which are given. Insecticides and fire-retardant compounds may also be present. Specification 820,330 is referred to.
