[Also in Division G1] Apparatus for correcting the position of railway track comprises a track lifting and packing machine 1, a tensioned wire 8 which extends parallel to the desired position of one rail 2 of the track from a position above the leading axle of the packing machine, positioned over a corrected section of track, to a support 9 in an uncorrected section of the track, a staff 7, located adjacent the track lifter associated with rail 2, in wheeled contact with rail 2 and co-operating with the wire 8 and the lifter to correct the position of rail 2, a pair of transverse inclination indicators, one positioned over the leading axle of the packing machine and the second adjacent the track lifters 6 at the section of track being corrected and means controlled by the two inclination indicators for terminating the operation of the track lifter associated with rail 2<SP>1</SP> when the correct transverse inclination is obtained. Each inclination indicator comprises an articulated frame 12 in contact with rails 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, a pendulum 13 pivoted to the top member of the frame and coupled via a toothed segment 14 and further gearing to a potentiometer 15. The outputs of the two potentiometers are connected to a control unit 17 which provides an output pulse to terminate the activity of the lifter when the current in leads 16, 16<SP>1</SP> is equal. A variable resistance 19 is provided in lever 16 from the indicator positioned over the corrected part of the track to permit adjustment of the arrangement to accommodate predetermined changes in super-elevation.
