Abstract

987,770. Telegraphy. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 11, 1962 [May 16, 1961], No. 18200/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading H4P. The invention provides a telegraph switching system wherein normal traffic can be interrupted temporarily by a station having greater priority. Normal transmission takes place over a fourwire line between two stations, but when a priority signal is received from a booking station (e.g. a passenger seat booking office) switching operations are initiated to switch off the normal transmitters and receivers and to bring in circuit the central booking office. Booking data is then transmitted over the four wire line, followed by a release signal which causes the normal transmitters and receivers to be brought back to operation. It is arranged that switchover to the priority system can not occur until after the transmission of a complete code combination, so that such a combination is not received mutilated.
