Abstract

987,714. Filter element for liquids. VOKES Ltd. Sept. 10, 1963 [Aug. 21, 1962], No. 32084/62. Heading BID. A filter element for liquids comprises a layer of conventional filter material, e.g. felt, or impregnated paper, formed into deep pleats by zig-zag folding, in which there is bonded to each pleat a stiffener, e.g. of corrugated cardboard or stiffened paper, designed to give access of liquid to the filter material. The stiffener strips may be bonded to the sheet of filter material as in Figs. 1 or 2. Fig. 3 shows a typical filter approximately 1 foot in height with pleats about 2 inches deep formed into a cylinder 6 inches diameter, and spaced by corrugated spacer strips 2 ; dished end-caps 3 and 4 are bonded to foraminous metal formers 5 and 6 (one of which may be omitted) and to the ends of the pleats. Alternatively the pleated element may be used in the form of a flat panel bonded into a frame.
