987,689. Fluid-pressure brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATURENFABRIKEN KOMM.-GES]. Aug. 24, 1961 [Oct. 6, 1960], No. 30551/61. Heading F2F. Means for controlling the braking force of motor vehicle brakes comprises a booster unit including differential pistons, a first valve which when open equalizes master cylinder pressure and wheel cylinder pressure and which is closed to boost the wheel cylinder pressure when the latter, operating on one face of the smaller diameter piston, produces a force exceeding that produced by air in a pneumatic suspension system acting on the other face of the smaller piston, and a second valve arranged in parallel with the first valve, the second valve being normally closed but opened during return of the pistons when the brakes are released, so as to prevent fluid being trapped under pressure in the booster. As shown, the larger piston 4 is provided with an aperture 6 which is closable by a valve member 5 secured to the smaller piston. A second valve member 9 is spring-loaded so as normally to close off passages 7, 8 bypassing the piston 4 but is opened upon contact of an extension pin 11 of the member 9 with end wall 3. Hydraulic fluid is supplied from the master cylinder at inlet 15 and passes via outlet 14 to the wheel cylinders. A piston 17 abutting the smaller piston is acted on by suspension air in a chamber 16. Specification 972,133 is referred to.
