Abstract

A stable aqueous emulsion comprises by weight: nitrocellulose up to 4.5%; nitrocellulose solvents 20%, e.g. butyl acetate, methyl isobutyl ketone; plasticizers for nitrocellulose 7% e.g. caster oil, cyclohexyl phthalate; diluents for the nitrocellulose 1%, e.g. butoxyethanol; paraffin wax 1.5-4.5%; paraffin wax solvent 13.8-40.7%, e.g. toluene; emulsifying agent 0.6%, e.g. sodium dioctylsulphosuccinate; and water 51.8-21.8%. The emulsion is used for coating paper to render it impermeable to water vapour and greases (see Division B2).ALSO:Paper or paper board is rendered impermeable to water vapour and greases by coating with a composition comprising by weight: nitrocellulose up to 4,5%; nitrocellulose solvents 20%; plasticizers for nitrocellulose 7%; diluents for nitrocellulose 1%; paraffin wax 1,5-4,5%; paraffin wax solvent 13,8-40,7%; emulsifying agent 0,6%; and water 51,8-21,8%. In an example, a noncalendered crystal paper, a similar sulphurized paper, a non-calendered opaque paper and a cardboard are coated by coating blades with an emulsion containing nitrocellulose, castor oil, cyclohexylphthalate, methylisobutyl ketone, butoxyethanol, sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate, paraffin wax, toluene and distilled water.
