Abstract

A coating composition for tablets comprises (1) a film-forming resin selected from: polymethylstyrene, methylstyrene/acrylonitrile copolymer, polyvinylbutyrol, polyvinylchloride, pentaerythritol and alkyd esters of rosin, pentaerythritol esters of modified rosins and terpene modified alkyd resins, (2) poly(ethylene glycol), glyceryl monostearate or diglycol stearate, and (3) an organic solvent boiling below 85 DEG C., e.g. acetone, ethanol, methyl ethyl ketone, methylene chloride and mixtures thereof. Optional ingredients are dyes, lakes, pigments, beeswax, lanolin, stearic acid, cocoa butter, cetyl alcohol, castor oil, mineral oil, corn oil, sesame oil, propylene glycol, soybean oil, surface active agents, vinyl stearate and flavouring agents.ALSO:A tablet has as a coating a thin film of a composition comprising a water-permeable combination of a physiologically acceptable substance selected from polyethylene glycol, glyceryl monostearate and diglycol stearate, and a film-forming resin selected from polymethylstyrene, methylstyrene/acrylonitrile copolymer, polyvinylbutyral, polyvinylchloride, pentaerythritol and alkyd esters of rosin, pentaerythritol esters of modified rosins, and terpene-based alkyd resins. Optional ingredients are dyes, lakes, pigments, beeswax, lanolin, stearic acid, cocoa butter, cetyl alcohol, castor oil, mineral oil, corn oil, sesame oil, propylene glycol, soybean oil, surface-active agents, vinyl stearate and flavouring agents.
