Abstract

986,107. Electromagnetic relays. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1961 [Sept. 2, 1960], No. 30439/60. Heading H2B. The armature 20 of a relay carries a plunger 16 which is slidable in a hollow core 5 to actuate a plurality angularly spaced change-over contact sets, each set comprising a pair of moving contact elements 29, 30 biased towards a fixed contact element 36. The position of an actuating buffer 25 on the plunger is adjustable by means of a nut 32. The contact elements 29, 30 are generally U - shaped and carry a contact at the end of one limb, being supported on posts 42 at the end of the other limb or at the base of the U. The posts 42 &c. pass through glass seals in the base 1 and the relay is hermetically sealed in a casing 54. The contact elements 29 and 3<SP>0</SP> are made by applying a metal coating to a base board, removing those portions not required to leave the pattern shown in Fig. 5, removing the pattern from the board, etching away excess material, cutting along the dotted lines 68 to separate the sets of contacts 67, subjecting the sets to a combined hardening and presetting operation, mounting the contact sets on posts and finally severing the individual contact elements 29, 30 from a ring 70. The spring contact elements are of beryllium copper coated with silver.
