In a hatch cover comprising sections 2 which cover the hatch opening or may be stowed upright at one end of the opening, pairs of links 3, 4 are provided pivoted together and to adjacent sections 2, so as to connect the sections together and means 7 being provided for holding the links extended to enable them to transmit pushing. forces. As shown, projections 7 prevent the' links from hinging upwards and thus allow them to transmit a pushing force to stack the sections. The sections have rollers 5 which engage ramps 10 (only one shown), ramps 12 (only one shown) being engaged by skids 6 for controlling downward folding of the links. Rollers may be used instead of skids 6. Friction discs may be included at the joints between the links.
