Abstract

985,574. Cooling shaft furnace walls. GLAVERBEL. Feb. 2, 1962 [Feb. 17, 1961], No. 4197/62. Heading F4B. In a shaft furnace down which vitrifiable raw material falls in scattered form to be preheated by fumes rising from a melting zone at the bottom, waste heat is recovered from the preheater part of the shaft by the circulation of cooling fluid in metallic elements arranged against the wall of the shaft and through further metallic elements within the upper part. Hollow metallic sectors 11 fit closely against the trued outer face of the preheater shaft 4, the inlet pipes 12 and outlet pipes 13 of the sectors being connected through ring pipes 14, 15 to headers 16, 18 respectively. Tubes 19 are arranged on the inner face of the cooler upper part of the preheater shaft, and connected to an upper inlet header 21 and a lower outlet header 22. The cooling fluid may be air which is fed to the burners 10 heating the melt.
