Lint formed in a textile machine and deposited on an apron arranged beneath lint producing parts of the machine, is carried by the apron to a suction manifold and introduced into said manifold by positive means which are operatively associated with the apron and are substantially independent of air movement. In the arrangement shown, for a loom, the apron comprises an endless belt 24 carried on two rollers 26, 28 the roller 28 being the driving roller. The belt is depressed at its centre to clear the loom drop wires 20 from which the lint drops on to the belt. The lint is carried by the belt towards an air extraction manifold 32 in which the suction is maintained by a motorized fan 58 drawing the lint from the manifold through a duct 50 and a flexible tube 52 to the lint collecting box 54. Ingress of air to the manifold is through perforations 46 (Fig. 3, not shown) in the base thereof. The positive means for transferring lint from the belt to the manifold comprises an idler roller 60 maintained in contact with the belt as it passes over the driving roller 28 so that the lint is gripped between the roller 60 and the belt and carried through the nip into the manifold 32. At the front of the manifold is a trough, an upper edge 88 of which forms a scraper to remove lint material adhering to the belt surface. Such material accumulates in the trough and ultimately forms a wiper for the belt. Means to ensure correct tracking of the belt over the rollers and to prevent belt creep, are described.
