Abstract

922,327. Cleaning textile machines and recovering fibres. WINDLE ENGINEERING CO. Inc. Jan. 11, 1962, No. 1024/62. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (3). Apparatus for recovering and cleaning fibrous material from a machine provided with a feed hopper, such as a carding machine, comprises first conveying means located beneath the machine and on which fibrous material may fall and second conveying means transporting the material to a mechanical duster that returns cleaned fibres to the feed hopper. Material falling away from the fibre working elements of the machine may collect on an apron 16 that carries it to a transverse belt 22 from which it is drawn by a suction pipe 24 for delivery to a separator 30 from which air escapes upwardly as the material falls by gravity into a cylindrical duster screen 34 within which a helically spiked cylinder rotates at high speed. Fibres fall into the hopper through an opening 40 and the heavier dirt passes through the screen 38 to be separately collected. The fibre recovery mechanism may operate continuously or intermittently.
