Abstract

985,425. Copying documents. BLOCK & ANDERSON Ltd. (D. Veenman). April 25, 1961 [April 26, 1960], No. 14627/60. Heading B6C. A rotary hectographic duplicating machine comprises a rotatable printing drum 10 provided with a fixed clip 11 for holding one imagebearing master sheet, a first axially movable clip 12 for holding a second image-bearing master sheet underlying said first master sheet, and a second axially movable clip 16 for holding a masking sheet overlying said second master sheet at a variable axial spacing distance from the nearest edge of said first master sheet whereby the whole of the first master sheet and a variable part or the whole of the second master sheet can be printed in selected juxtaposition to one another, and is provided at a single position with visual indications of the part of the second master sheet which is exposed for printing adjacent the first master sheet and of the total amount of said second master image which is actually exposed for printing. The clip 12 is movable in unit steps of predetermined dimension by tension on a flexible chain 14 against the bias of a spring 15 and a strip 23 bearing characters related to the position of the clip 12 is movable against a spring 25 by tension on a flexible coupling member 24 interconnected with chain 14. A strip 26 is provided with characters related to the position of the clip 16 and the strip 26 and the clip 16 are movable under tension of couplings 27 and 18 against the bias of springs 28 and 19 respectively. A panel 20 displays a numeral from each strip, e.g. with the clip 12 fully to the left the numeral 1 is displayed on the strip 23, and if the clip 16 is fully to the right the numeral 1 is also displayed on the strip 26. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the strip 26 is replaced by a shutter plate overlying the strip 23 and the number of characters visible is related to the position of the clip 16. The strips 23 or 26 may be replaced by a polygonal bar, Fig. 3 (not shown), each surface of the bar carrying characters spaced in different steps in accord with the clip spacing dimensions.
