Abstract
Artificial finger or toe nails are formed directly on the natural nail by applying a solution of a polymer in a monomer, or in an inert solvent, and then either polymerizing it in position or allowing the solvent to evaporate, so as to leave an adherent film which can be trimmed as desired. The portion beyond the end of the natural nail is formed by moulding the film in a template which is subsequently removed. The mixture applied is preferably polymethyl methacrylate in monomeric methacrylic acid methyl ester and this may be applied either directly as a mass of dough-like consistency or as a thin sheet, the adhesion of which may be assisted by the interposition of a priming layer comprising, for example, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl alcohol or halogenated synthetic rubber. In each case the setting time may be up to eight minutes.ALSO:Artificial finger or toe nails are formed on the natural nail by applying a solution of a polymer in a monomer, or in an inert solvent, and then either polymerizing it in position or allowing the solvent to evaporate, so as to leave an adherent film which can be trimmed as desired. The portion beyond the end of the natural nail is formed by moulding the film in a template which is subsequently removed. The mixture applied is preferably polymethyl methacrylate in monomeric methacrylic acid methyl ester and this may be applied either directly as a mass of dough-like consistency or as a thin sheet, the adhesion of which may be assisted by the interposition of a priming layer comprising, for example, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl alcohol or halogenated synthetic rubbers. In each case the setting time may be up to eight minutes and, to prevent the mould moving in this time, it may be supported in a clamp mounted on the finger.
