[Also in Divisions B8 and G1] A -method of rendering a granular product or mixture of such products homogeneous by depositing it in parallel layers to form a heap and reclaiming from the heap in parallel layers oblique to the deposited layers is characterized by causing the depositing and reclaiming operations to proceed simultaneously on a single stationary site in such manner that the heap progressively moves over the site. In Figs. 4 and 5, the heap is formed on an open circular site 12 over which a spreader feeder 15 oscillates in an arc defining the ends 4 and 7 of the heap 2, the limits of this are being displaced in the direction of the arrow F2 at each oscillation. Reclaiming is effected by a device (e.g. a scraper) 19 which removes material from the foot of the slope of fall at the highest end 4 of the heap. In Fig. 7 the site is an annular hopper 21 and the material is laid down in layers parallel to the slope of fall and reclaimed in horizontal layers through a slit 26 in the hopper base, both the feeder 24 and the reclaimer (not shown) moving continuously around the hopper. In Fig. 9 the site is a rectilinear hopper and the operation is similar to the Fig. 7 embodiment, the heap 111 progressing in the direction of arrow F until the leading edge 113 thereof reaches the end 116 of the hopper, when the depositing means 121 is returned to the end 118 and starts to form a new heap while the old one is still being reclaimed. The rates of deposition and reclamation may be controlled by the weighers A and B (see Division G1).
