Abstract
984,674. Television pick-up tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 28, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 10870/60. Heading H1D. In an electric discharge tube such as a vidicon or image orthicon - television pick-up tube in which a scanning beam of electrons is focused at the target 4 by a solenoid 11, a magnetic or magnetizable member or disc 7, e.g. of mild steel, is provided near the target to maintain the beam in focus over the target and to overcome the edge effects of the coil 11. A mesh electrode, serving as an ion trap or field mesh, may be arranged in contact with, and on either side of, the disc 7. Where in the vidicon shown, the target 4 comprises a solid layer of antimony trisulphide on a spongy layer of the same substance, the solid layer may be deposited by driving antimony trisulphide, which is deposited on the disc 7 and associated mesh during the deposition of the first spongy layer, on to the anode 5 and from there on to the target. These steps are accomplished by shifting an eddy current heating coil. Specification 984,673 is referred to.
