Abstract

984,103. Axle casings. RUBERY, OWEN & CO. Ltd. Feb. 13, 1964 [Dec. 1, 1962], No. 45587/62. Heading B7D. An axle casing comprises a banjo casing 12 having on opposite sides aligned apertures 11, and axle arms 10 welded in the apertures 11 and to baffle plates 13 welded within the banjo easing. The baffle plates 13 are provided with holes 15 for the axle shafts and are curved or bent as shown to provide an even contact line with the casing 12 to facilitate automatic welding. The banjo easing has a circular aperture in one or both faces and is formed by two identical pressings 17 joined by welding 19. The axle arms 10 are of square cross-section.
