A clamp comprises two apertured plates 2, 3 adapted to be bolted together with members 1, 1 of circular cross-section therebetween, each of the plates having at least two parallel transverse grooves 6 formed herein and substantially continuously defined across the surface of the respective plate, the effective depth (with reference to the circular cross-section of the members) of the grooves being greater than the radius of the members, but less than the diameter of the members. The plates may be castings, as shown, or sheet metal stampings, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
