Abstract

984,026. Flexible hoses. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. Jan. 24, 1964 [Jan. 10, 1963], No. 1238/63. Heading F2P. [Also in Division D1] A flexible hose for the delivery of petroleum comprises a textile jacket, a thin inner lining of a polyamide or polyester and a thin reinforcing tube of textile fabric disposed between the inner lining and the jacket and bonded to both of them, the reinforcing tube being bonded to the inner lining by a polyurethane adhesive. A flat nylon tube 10, Fig. 1, is drawn from its storage reel 11 by rollers 12, 12 and a web 16 of nylon cambric is drawn by a roller 18. The nylon cambric has preferably been given an impervious coating and it is also coated with polyurethane adhesive 17. The nylon tube 10 passes over a seaming board 13, where the web 16 is wrapped round it, having passed through a heater 21 and with its adhesive surface facing the nylon tube 10. The seaming board is restrained from moving with the tube by a device 14, 15. The reinforced lining tube 22 is continuously coiled to form a reel 23. Fig. 3 shows a process in which a web 16 of nylon cambric and the web 30 of polyester film are formed into a laminate between the rollers 32. The web 16 has a coating 17 of polyurethane adhesive from which most of the solvent is removed by heat from a steam chest 31. Polyurethane adhesive is supplied from an applicator 33 and sticks down the overlap seam when a tube, formed by a sizing board 34, is passed between rollers 35. A woven textile jacket 24, Fig. 2, is secured to the tube 22 by drawing the two through pairs of mangle rollers 25, 27 and pouring in polyurethane adhesive which forms pools 26, 28 first at one side and then at the other, after which the hose is pulled through a third pair of mangle rollers 29. The lining is subsequently bonded to the jacket by inflating it with steam under pressure. Examples are given specifying proportions of ingredients and alternative compositions of adhesives. The finished hose may be coated with polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride. Specification 925,241 is referred to.
