Abstract
983,721. Toothed gearing. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Oct. 25, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 42214/62. Heading F2Q. In a reduction gear arrangement, driving pieces, in the form of cylindrical pins 5 movable radially in slots 4 in the periphery of a carrier disc 3a rigidly secured to an output shaft 3, are in turn moved into engagement with inward facing teeth 2 of a fixed annulus 1 by rotation of an elliptical cam disc 8 secured to an input shaft 9, so that the carrier disc 3a and shaft 3 are rotated in a direction opposite to that of the input shaft 9. The driving pins 5, which are fewer in number than the annulus teeth 2, are prevented from axial movement by circlips 6 and a retaining plate 7 and are urged against the cam periphery 8 by a resilient band 11 mounted in a peripheral groove 12 of the carrier disc 3a. Each pin 5 may have a roller at each end for rolling contact with the cam disc 8 and the slot 4 respectively. Alternatively, each driving member may comprise a peg slidable in a radial bore in the carrier disc and having an outer end shaped to engage with the annulus teeth 2, a roller on the side of each peg engaging in an elliptical groove 15 in the face of the cam disc 8, Fig. 4. A further form of driving member, shown in Fig. 5, is U-shaped with one limb slidable radially in an inwardly opening bore in a flange on the carrier disc and the other limb engageable with the annulus teeth 2, the central portion having a roller 17 contacting the cam periphery 8. A cup-shaped deformable seal 18 may be interposed between the cam disc and the driving pieces.
