Abstract

983,562. Sliding windows. ALUMIN BUILDING COMPONENTS Ltd, and E. J. MILLS. Feb. 6, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 13182/63. Heading E1J. A sliding window which may be installed as a permanent fixture during the construction of a building or can be adapted as a secondary window adjacent any window of an existing structure to form a double window, comprises upper and lower trackways 8, 9 in which the pane or panes is or are slidable, partition members 12, 12a Fig. 3 extending longitudinally within the trackways and disposed in adjacent vertical planes and provided with vertical bevelled edges 22 disposed to engage a pane 1 or 2, when moved and force it out of surface contact with an adjacent pane. Side channel components 7 receive the vertical edges of the panes in their closed positions. The upper and lower trackways Fig. 2 have externally lateral channel components 27 which engage fixed members 24 mounted on an existing window frame 5 to secure the trackways in operative position. The upper trackway is of .greater depth than required to accommodate the pane 1, to facilitate removal of the latter and springs 31, Fig. 3 ensure contact between the panes 1, 2, in the closed position. The partitions 12 on bases 19 slide along the ribs 16 joined on the web 15 of the channel members 8, 9.
