Abstract

983,538. Pad applicators. W. A. SHERBONDY. Dec. 17, 1963, No. 49790/63. Heading A4K. A liquid applicator, e.g. for liquid floor polish, detergents &c., includes a reservoir tank 12 having a normally outwardly bowed, resiliently flexible wall 35 provided with inwardly concave grooves 37 each having a longitudinal slit 36, the normally closed slits 36 being opened to discharge liquid 38 to an applicator cloth 14 by inward flexing of the wall 35 on manual application of pressure as desired to the work surface by a handle 13. The tank 12, which may be of rubber, metal or plastics, includes a filler spout 21 and cap 22 and includes a top plate 23 and a handle receiving ferrule 24. The plate 23 carries protuberances 25 on which eyelets 26 of the applicator cloth 14 are anchored. The grooves 37 terminate short of the tank side walls and the slits 36 in the side walls of each groove 37 are spread apart. The side and end walls of the tank 12 may be corrugated. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the grooves are formed between spaced ridges and the slits are located centrally of the grooves.
