Abstract

983,444. Vehicle window regulating mechanisms. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 17, 1962], No. 47445/62. Heading E2M. Relates to vehicle window regulating mechanism of the kind in which a flexible driving element 19 Fig. 1 comprising a wire core 19a with a helically coiled wire 19b wound on the core, is guided in a tube 21 and is actuated by means including a rotable pinion engaging the wire 19b, the tube 21 and a actuating means being secured to a vehicle door and a connecting piece 20 projecting through a longitudinal slot in the tube 21 and secured to the element 19 connecting it to the window 10 which is slidably mounted on the door 11, so that operation of the actuating means effects movement of the window. According to the invention the connecting piece 20 is connected to a support member 17 supporting the lower edge of the window 10 and guiding elements e.g. rollers 28, 29, 30 are mounted on the support member 17 to engage the guide tube 21 so as to prevent angular movement of the support member 17 relative to the adjacent guide tube 21. As shown in Fig. 1 the support member 17 is connected to a window-edge support 13 by means of channels 14 so as to permit relative movement therebetween in a direction transverse to the length of the guide 21 and the support member 17 is connected to the driving element 19 by a resilient coupling comprising a pair of rubber pads 22 secured between brackets 23 on the piece 17 and the connecting piece 20 secured to the driving element 19. The roller 30 and one or other of the rollers 28, 29 may be adjustably mounted on the piece 17. The pinion engaging the wire 19b may be manually rotated or, as shown, operated by an electric motor 25. In a modification for operating a part cylindrical window panel 36 Fig. 5, movable in a vertical direction, the panel is rigidly mounted in a channel 37 on a plate 38 bolted to the window support member 39 and the rollers 28, 29, 30 thereon engage a reinforcing web 35 Fig. 7, formed on the guide tube 21, the peripheries of the rollers being correspondingly shaped to engage the curved ends of the web 35 and the rollers being mounted on part spherical bearing pieces 40, Fig. 6 (not shown) to permit them to align themselves with the web 35. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 930,075.
