Abstract

983,359. Securing pulleys on shafts; expanding-wheel gearing. EMERSON ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 5, 1963, No. 48054/63. Headings F2D and F2U. The movable disc 8 of an expanding-pulley is connected to the drive shaft 1 by a key 14 secured to the hub 11 and axially slidable along a groove in the shaft, a bush of anti-friction plastic material, e.g. " Delrin," " Nylatron " or " Teflon " (all Registered Trade Marks), being interposed between the hub and shaft. As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the key has end projections 14a, 14b engaging slots in the hub, the bearing bush 15 having a longitudinal slit 16 and being connected to the hub by bent-up lugs 17, 18, 19 which engage a central annular hub recess 22. In Fig. 11 the bush 42 is shaped to the lower portion of the key 14 and may be secured to the drive shaft 1 by bonding. Fig. 15 shows an arrangement with a plain key 55 and bush 54 retained in the hub by end circlips, a modified arrangement, Fig. 17 (not shown), incorporating end projections on both members for securing them to the hub. In Fig. 19 the key 64 has end projections and a central recess engaged by lugs 62 on the bush 70, while the plain bush and key shown in Fig. 21 have central raised portions 66 engaging a central hub recess. The bush may be divided into two separate axial portions, Fig. 7, showing two plain sections 38, 39 for use with a plain key, end circlips securing the assembly within the hub. In a further arrangement, Fig. 13 (not shown), the key has end projections and the bush sections have inner end enlargements engaging annular hub recesses.
